The building originally served as an arsenal for the Army and the Navy built by King Christian 4. in 1609, and became later a museum with the purpose of storing, preserving and studying canons and hand weapons etc. |

| The Danish Centre for Urban History  |
Research and educational institution established as a joint venture between Den Gamle By ("The Old Town", the Danish national open air museum of urban history and culture) and the Department of History at the University of Aarhus with the aim to encourage research, to educate researchers and to disseminate the history of Danish towns. The main focus area is Denmark from the Viking Age to the present day, in an international perspective and at an international level. Main site is in Danish only, but an introduction is available in English.

| The Viking Ship Museum |
The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde offers a unique opportunity to experience Viking ships, the Viking Age and life at sea. Five original 11th-century Viking ships, excavated from Roskilde Fjord in 1962, are on display in the Viking Ship Hall, and through the exhibitions you can experience the fascinating story of the Danish Vikings—life, culture, ship building, weapons, viking raids etc. In addition boat trips are arranged several times daily during the summer season, allowing visitors to try their hand at the oars or setting the sail. The museum receives about 130,000 visitors of all ages annually, about 70% from abroad. |

| Houses and Citizens after the Copenhagen fire of 1728 |
A digitalised version (facsimile) of the book: "Kjøbenhavns Huse og Indvaanere efter Branden 1728" published in Copenhagen 1906 with information on houses and citizens after the Copenhagen fire of 1728. The fire destroyed 1,700 houses (appr. 28% of the city) and left 20% of the population homeless. The book consists of seven chapters, of which the two most important are made available; chapter III: "The number of destroyed lots from the cadastre of April 13" and chapter IV: "A enumeration of Dec. 14, 1728 of the Copenhagen Citizens living in quarters that was not destroyed". You can browse the facsimile quarter by qhuarter or find a name in the index (chapter V). The website is made available by the Historical Institute at the University of Bergen, Norway. Book and website are only available in Danish/Norwegian.

| Digitized Parish Registers and Censuses Lists |
A digitization project from the Danish State Archives Filming Centre with the purpose to make Danish parish registers and censuses list accessible via the Internet. Parish registers and census lists are displayed as pictures of the original records so it is not possible to access the information by personal names or occupations etc. As of Oct. 12 2006 all Danish parish registers older than 1892 are online (about 5.5 mill. pages) thereby completing the first half of the digitization project. Other records, such as most cencuses for the Kingdom of Denmark, will be launched later as a successive process without an exact timetable. You can use the website free of charge, however, to access the records you will first need to sign up as a user. Introduction, registration guide, and word list is available in English. |
